To put it in simple terms, nutrition is the process in which food is used to maintain proper health, growth and repair of body tissues.  A well-balanced diet is essential in order to ensure the body is functioning properly.

Nutrition is a key component in overall health but unfortunately in today’s society it can be challenging to maintain a healthy diet due to the overabundance of unhealthy choices we are exposed to on a daily basis.

As humans, we function best when our body receives both proper nutrition and regular physical activity. It can be easy to start exercising and increase physical activity but if we are not conscious of what we are putting into our body then our physical efforts may be wasted. This will lead to lack of motivation due to the fact that we are not making any “progress” but in reality, we are simply creating an uphill battle.

Have you ever heard the phrase “You can’t out exercise a bad diet”, well it’s true, eventually it will catch up with you!

As I stated previously, eating a well-balanced diet can be challenging in modern day society. Everywhere we go we are continuously bombarded with advertisements for fast food, soda, candy, I mean the list goes on!  When was the last time you saw an advertisement for fresh fruits or vegetables? Even if you have, I’m pretty sure it is few and far between the amount you see for unhealthy options.

On top of that, you have the convenience factor, we are so busy with life that it can be easier to grab something quick on the way home than plan out and cook an entire meal after a long day of work.

I get it, it can be very challenging but eventually you must make the choice to do what is best not what is easy.

Yes, making the effort to change will be difficult but not impossible. In the United states we are experiencing an increased rate of obesity, type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease and there is one common denominator…. our diet!  The scary part is this is not just affecting us as adults, our children are now suffering from conditions that were previously unheard of in a young child.

Change can be difficult but dealing with sickness is worse. What we are eating is literally making us sick, tired, stressed and unhappy. We must take accountability and do something now; our health is literally our wealth and without it everything else can suffer.

One of my goals for this year is to personally become more conscious of the things I am putting into and on my body. I am paying more attention to what I eat, drink and the products I use on a daily basis for my family and myself. I challenge you to do the same!

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their mind cannot change anything.”

As I have said before….Change your MIND, change your BODY, change your LIFE!
