I’ve heard it before, “Why should I care about diet and exercise, we’re all going to die anyway?”
Well, this is true but it is a terrible way to think! If that’s the case, why should you care about anything at all?!
We only get one body, technically (I mean you could pay to get a new one but you get my point.) As we get older, you will start to feel the effects of the things you have done in your younger days. While genetics play a major role in your health, your lifestyle is a huge contributing factor.
Making your health a priority isn’t about being so strict that you can’t enjoy yourself. The key is to find a good balance and stick with it.
On the contrary, not making your health a priority can very well interfere with you being able to enjoy life. In the United States, chronic diseases are responsible for 7 out of 10 deaths. Chronic diseases include: Heart Disease, Type II Diabetes, Obesity, Lung Disease and Cancer. The development of chronic diseases can be prevented by adopting healthier habits.
There are three factors that determine our health:
- Genetics: Our family genes.
- Environment: Where we live and what we are exposed to on a daily basis.
- Lifestyle: Our daily habits such as what we eat, drink and how much physical activity we participate in.
No we can’t change our gene pool and in some cases it may be difficult to control your environment depending on your circumstances but you can control your lifestyle so you can reach your optimum health. How we live our lives affects our genetic makeup and can trigger the development of certain diseases that we may be predisposed to.
Yes, it is very easy to live an unhealthy lifestyle in today’s society. Technology advances make it easy for us to literally not have to move a muscle and it is literally killing us!
Taking care of your health is the most important form of self-love!
We spend tons of time and energy taking care of things that are replaceable and working ourselves into the ground for a job that would replace us in a minute. If you prioritize these things and certain activities over your health then eventually you will not be able to enjoy them anyway because guess what……..
You won’t have your health and good health is true wealth!!
So why care?
Care because you only get one life and you only get one body! Care enough to be an example to your kids that having good health is priceless.
Yes, we never know when our time on this earth is up but while you are here it’s about quality!
Yes, looking good is great but feeling good is even better! I love that I am 36 and I have the energy to run and play with my kids, I have two boys and they still can’t beat me in a race! When I have grandkids, I want to have the energy and strength to run and play with them as well.
Research shows that our daily habits can have a serious effect on the deterioration of our body. We as humans were made to move!
The saying goes “We don’t stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing!”
You have the power to be your best! It’s time to fall in love with the process of becoming the very best version of yourself!
